On September 26, 2014, ASAP Mob's founder ASAP Yams announced on his Tumblr account that the group scrapped the release for their collective's album, L.O.R.D., and instead named Rocky's second album as the label's next release. ASAP Rocky revealed that he had been working on his second album. On March 16, 2014, announcements were made for two releases including their first instrumental mixtape, Beauty and the Beast: Slowed Down Sessions (Chapter 1), and the ASAP Mob's collaborative album, L.O.R.D. ASAP Rocky, interviewed by CRWN in April 2015. I got to a point where I just was like, 'I need to do something about this shit.' I'm getting a headache thinking about it. I got to a point where I felt like I was 26 I felt Rap was shit. I was intimidated because those shoes are too big to fulfill or walk in. That's like being named Michael Jordan or Magic Johnson to me, you get what I'm saying? Or Kobe Bryant or something like that. I was fortunate enough to be named after one of the greatest emcees of all time. People wanna hear bars, they wanna hear some music, they wanna hear me rapping. Sleeper hit it seems, it's much better than it'll get credit for Hun43rd and Black Tux, White Collar are standout, rest of the album is a slog AT.LONG.LAST will remain his best for now. Despite this, there are some standouts mainly in the first half and the instrumentation has a very Yeezus feel to it which could work for some. Rocky's fallen off the cliff a bit whether via a lack of passion in what he's doing or lack of content to rap about so it mostly comes off as stale. 2) was also very hit-or-miss and no where near the quality of his first two studio albums. His work leading up to this has been spotty at best, with a lot of his standalone singles over the past year or so not making much of a splash. This is certainly an underrated and understated album. Somehow exceeded my expectations of quite how bad this was going to beĮxtremely underrated/misunderstood project, and I'm not even that fond of itĪn album that manages to simultaneously be noisy and experimental, but painfully boring at the same time.
